Melbourne-based DJ and producer Dean Turnley works within the lineage of Detroit and
Chicago house, shaping a sound that is stripped-back, functional and built with the dancefloor in mind. His productions favour tension and groove over excess – club tools that prioritise movement and restraint.
A mainstay of Australia’s underground for close to a decade, Turnley has developed his reputation through a steady presence across clubs, festivals and international circuits, alongside co-founding Thailand’s Sundancer festival. His approach remains DJ-led – selections and productions shaped by time spent in the booth.
That foundation has translated into a breakout in 2026 with “Actin’ Tough” – a track that moved from Melbourne underground ID to global club record, hitting #1 on the Beatport Chart and gaining widespread support across DJs and dancefloors internationally.
Turnley’s rise has been incremental rather than immediate – grounded in consistency, credibility and a clear focus on function. As his records continue to travel, he is emerging as one of the more reliable exports from Australia’s underground circuit.
